Making Performance: The Birds By Aristophanes

UNIVERSITY OF HULL, Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 74X

22 Mar 2018

12+

A tale of two friends trying to start a new life that turns into a daring bid to usurp the gods and overthrow Zeus. A colourful spectacle full of satire, this modern re-imagining of the classical comedy shines a light on the politics of power and those who use it.

‘Making Performance’ is a season of theatre work by final-year undergraduate students in Drama and which runs throughout the month of March. The work offered is as broad as it is distinctive and ranges from classical Greek to Shakespearean comedy; children’s fairy-tale to contemporary new writing.

Students involved in this work engage in a year-long process in which the full range of theatre production skills acquired during their programmes of study are developed and applied.
