Blooming Yellow Day 2022

HULL CITY CENTRE

25 Jun 2022

FREE

Family Friendly

‘Yellow Day’ was a project that rolled out across Hull, by Preston Likely with the help of countless people from all corners of the aforementioned city in 2017.

This years theme is ‘Blooming Yellow Day’ with yellow flowers in abundance!

The day itself was created to help people from Hull to celebrate their love of their city, and it’s fascinating history, by means of wearing or creating something yellow.

I chose the colour yellow because it’s a psychologically uplifting colour, and it resonates spontaneity, optimism, positivity and energy. And I intended to link all of those elements with people’s love of Hull and its long and influential history. Furthermore, I chose yellow because it is a colour that is intrinsically linked with Hull, as this was the colour of the the three coronets that featured in Hull’s original coat of arms.

It is also worth noting that the date – the 24th of June – is an important date in Hull’s cultural calendar, as it was on this day back in 1981 that the Humber Bridge was officially opened, and there’s no greater symbol of connection than a bridge.
