Choral Evensong (Minster Choir – SATB)

HULL MINSTER, South Church Side, Parish Centre, Hull, HU1 1RR

19 Oct 2019

Family Friendly

Hull Minster Choir sings choral evensong on the 3rd or 4th Saturday in the month, expertly and effortlessly interpreting musical settings of much-beloved texts.

Attendance is absolutely free, and the music is always live. Although it is an act of worship for some, no religious expectation is made of anyone who visits…simply turn up and enjoy a quiet time with some beautiful music sung by an experienced, robed choir. The music of choral evensong is mostly specially composed settings of psalms and other religious texts, and typically consists of: an Introit, Preces & Responses, a Psalm, Canticles, and an Anthem, plus a well-known hymn or two, and a piece played on the organ.

These elements are sung by a trained choir who have spent time rehearsing and learning their parts, and who enjoy coming together to make other people’s time in a church a memorable one. At the end, there’s the wonderful sound of an organ Voluntary filling the building with energy and optimism.

Introit: Rheinberger, ‘Abendlied’
Preces & Responses: Ayleward
Psalm: 84
Canticles: Harwood in A Flat
Anthem: Brahms, ‘How lovely are Thy dwellings fair’

Hymns (HON): 141, Father, hear the prayer we offer
172, Forth, in Thy name, O Lord, I go
