Professional boxing is coming to Hull’s Bonus Arena for the very first time next month.

Headlined by an English title fight, five Hull boxers will also get in the ring on Saturday, 26 October.

The show is promoted by VIP Promotions and Hull’s own Tommy Coyle and is the first professional boxing event to take place at the arena.

Craig Derbyshire will take on Marcel Braithwaite for the Super Fly English title with Hull boxers Connor Coghill, Sonny Taylor, Lewis Sylvester, Carl Chadwick and Tyler Gott taking part on the undercard.

Steve Wood, of VIP Promotions, said: “It is great to be coming back to Hull, which for a fighting city does not have many professional boxing events. I started doing them eight years ago with Tommy Coyle and it is good to be back and working with Tommy on this, who even though he is not fighting will be helping out as the local promoter. I have visited this new venue a couple of times now and it really is made for boxing, so everyone should have a great night.  With an English title fight headline and five local Hull kids on the undercard to date, hopefully more to be added, if all goes well we will be back to support the home grown talent.”

Tommy Coyle added: “I wish I was fighting but the next best thing to that will be working on the show with my Manger Steve Wood who I appreciate bringing a show to Hull. The venue is really first class and with it being the very first professional show at the arena we are to make history. I started off on small hall shows and have ended up with lifetime experiences including fighting in a stadium fight in Hull and also at the Mecca of boxing the MSG in New York – my message to the lads is if I can do it you can.

“This is a good show, it has local fighters and is very much value for money so I hope the town comes out and supports so we can do it again. The production facilities in the venue are top draw so everything is going to be right on the night, everyone should get down and become part of the history for our town, it is one not to be missed!”
