Middle Child present The Canary and the Crow, brand new gig theatre about the journey of a working class black kid who is accepted to a prestigious grammar school.

This lyrical, semi-autobiographical piece from writer and performer Daniel Ward uses grime, hip hop and theatre to tell the story of his struggle between a new environment that doesn’t accept him and an old one that has no opportunity.

The Canary and the Crow is the latest show at Hull Truck Theatre from the award-winning company behind the “electric” (★★★★ The Stage) and “startling” (★★★★★ A Younger Theatre) Us Against Whatever.

See our two Edinburgh preview shows at Hull Truck as part of the Grow Festival. The Canary and the Crow is also part of the Hull Takeover 2019.

What’s a preview?

Previews are the first showings of a new piece of work. Performing to an audience for the first time means that the cast and creative team can see how a show works ‘in real life’.

We learn from these performances and how an audience responds to them so that we can polish the show ahead of its full run or tour. We’d love for you to join us and play a part in making our next touring show!
