New for 2020
HMS Pickle is a re-creation of a 97ft Topsail Schooner built in 1795 in Bermuda, originally called Sting.
Spider T was built as a Humber sloop in 1926 by Warrens of New Holland on the river Humber.
HMS Pickle was brought back to England and became part of the Royal Navy strength and was known as HM Schooner Pickle. It took part in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Pickle in Nelson’s words was ‘ubiquitous.’
Spider had the designation of Super Sloop and had an impressive sailing performance. In 1939 she was derigged and fitted with an engine and as a motor vessel she carried cargo, including ammunition for the war effort.
