‘I am the Coyote’: Creative Writing Workshop

'I AM THE COYOTE': CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP

29 Oct 2019

2pm

Free

16+

As detailed in the “I Am The Coyote” Exhibition currently on show at the Brynmor Jones Library at the University of Hull, writing while incarcerated has been deemed to have transformative and redemptive possibilities, just as much as art or other creative endeavours. This writing workshop will showcase some of the Arts Council funded work that has been done in recent months by Dr Josephine Metcalf (Senior Lecturer in American Studies) and Russ Litten (novelist, poet and former HMP Writer-in-Residence) with (ex) prisoners in the Hull region. Starting with a discussion of poetry written by Guantanamo Bay inmates, we will use such critical reflections and thoughts to embark on our own creative writing during the session. No prior writing experience is needed or expected, just an interest in the dynamics of the possibilities of writing under oppressed conditions.

Participants may wish to bring along their own notebooks and writing materials to use during the workshop, although some paper and pens will be provided.
