Lol Goodman Band was formed in 2013 to much critical acclaim in the Blues/Rock genre, quickly booking up their diary with the blues clubs and festivals in the UK, on the back of the catalogue of original material written by Lol, and their first album release Old Dogs n Licks which was recorded inside a two day studio session with many of the tracks being live ‘first take’ recordings.
At the outset the band was the usual freestyle blues rock three piece with James DOC Horrocks on Bass, but the band has and always will evolve, not standing still and keeping fresh through an evolving change of highly talented musical personnel working alongside Lol and the Doc; and playing newly written original material written by Lol.
The second album Tautology introduced a Sax Player and Rod Mayall (John’s brother) on Keyboards. This was the start of the band evolving into a tighter unit and starting to differentiate themselves as a Blues Rock band that was not the norm of the usual three piece line ups.
Through their third and fourth albums, Just Wanna Say…. A Little Bit More and Scruddy and the Healing Sun; both released on Right Track/Universal to huge critical acclaim, their sound evolved even more into a US Southern Gritty Blues feel with twin lead guitars and a more pronounced Piano/Hammond Organ sound; yet clearly still holding their built in natural British blues feel. “Allman Bros meets Humble Pie”
The band love nothing better than to play long sets so they can really get ‘into the feel’ of the gig, playing mainly original material now off their five albums, with a smattering of a few well known but rarer underplayed Blues tunes: again, so as to be different from the three piece crowd!
Aside from their own more formal shows, the band loves nothing more than to play live raw unrehearsed blues classics at smaller venues, blues clubs and jam sessions.
The line up has now evolved into probably their strongest line up ever, with world class experienced session musicians; with DOC Horrocks having moved over onto twin lead guitar with Lol.
