Sea Sense is Concrete Youth’s new sensory, story massage programme, in partnership with The Deep, for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). On a monthly basis, Concrete Youth’s multi-sensory specialists will deliver an original, sea-themed story massage for a group of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, who will enjoy the session from the comfort of yoga mats, whilst surrounded by the creatures of The Deep. Hoists will be provided for those who require one during transfer.
Sea Sense will utilise story massage. Story Massage combines the benefits of agreed positive touch using story, rhyme or song. The technique contains ten simple massage strokes that can be used in different ways throughout different story massage sessions. It supports learning and communication through play and positive touch. Our team will deliver an original, sea-themed story each session and guide carers through the massage techniques and strokes that they need to deliver throughout the story. All massage techniques will complement the story and correspond with the characters that are being described. For this reason, we recommend one carer per participant with PMLD.
