“Forever Young: Black identity, youth culture, and the politics of protest” lecture at Middleton Hall
This lecture will explore the historic links between youth culture and blackness, examining constructions of teenage identity and how this has been impacted by the ongoing proliferation of black music.
Jeffrey will examine various evolutions in popular music and look at how this can illuminate our understanding of identity politics in the modern west, right up to the present day, with a focus on so called ‘marginalised’ perspectives.
We’ll also listen to a few tunes, and get a bit nostalgic, so get ready to dance (a bit, in your seats).
