In response to Perches and Flyways at Humber Street Gallery, poet Dean Wilson will reveal a specially commissioned poem and perform some of his work gathered in the collections Take Me Up The Lighthouse and Sometimes I’m So Happy I’m Not Safe On The Streets.
Nights with Dean are always something of a surprise – there may be a film screening, you will probably be given a badge with his face on it and he’s partial to a game of bingo.
Best known as a poet, Dean Wilson is based in the Holderness coastal town of Withernsea. He has been a multi-discipline artist for most of his life. He paints, creates (with Dave Lee) films of his poems and takes photographs of his numerous beach finds.
In recent years, he has become a social network sensation with his ‘Pebble of the Day’, which has inspired other artists to paint and embroider copies of his pebbles and other beach finds. He has also had his poems transformed into lyrics for songs by internationally renowned musicians.
