A spotlight shining on some of the science, engineering and inventions that have had profound effect on humanity. Since mankind discovered fire, human ingenuity has driven us forward; inventions and ideas have shaped the world around us although, sadly, not always for the better! Starting in the stone ages and moving through to the present day you will zoom in on some of the key discoveries and un-pick their un-intended consequences.

  • Central Library: Tuesday 12th August, 10:45 – 11:45am

Lives Lived

Age: 8 – 13 yrs

If you do attend with a child under 8, children under 8 yrs must be accompanied by an adult

Going back an astonishing 4.6 billion years and racing through to the present, you can leap through time and discover the story of life on this planet. From the tiniest bacteria through the fearsome and friendly dinosaurs, and onwards to the arrival and ascent of man. We end in the present day discussing the problems now faced as we try to create a sustainable environment in which humanity can thrive. The talk is very fast moving and entertaining, whilst telling a fascinating story.

  • Central Library: Tuesday 19th August, 2:45- 3:45pm

We look forward to seeing you there!

*Due to safety and limited space, we politely request that children are accompanied by only one adult to prevent crowding in the activity space. Please do not bring siblings to the event unless they have a pre-booked place and meet the age requirements *
