Hull’s Monthly Platform for Women. Every month Women of Words host a unique event celebrating the female voice with two special guests and open mic section.

Lynda Harrison will be your host as we welcome Jess Green fresh from Edinburgh to our stage and from Hull Women of Words regular Lynne Taylor.

Jess is a performance poet & playwright who has performed at Glastonbury, Latitude, Bestival and the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2014 her poem, Dear Mr Gove went viral on Youtube. The poem was from her poetry & music show, Burning Books which she performed with her band Jess Green and the Mischief Thieves receiving 5* reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe 2014/ 2015 & national tour.

Burning Books stage play was long-listed for the Bread & Roses Theatre Award It had a sell-out run at Curve in October 2017 and also shown at the Arena Theatre in Wolverhampton. Jess’ first collection, Burning Books was published by Burning Eye Books in September 2015 and was shortlisted for the East Midlands Book Award 2016.

She has written for Channel 4 and the BBC and recently took her poetry and music show, A Self Help Guide To Being In Love With Jeremy Corbyn to Edinburgh.

Lynne started writing after University. She had a short story accepted In the Hull University’s own press anthology. Her work has been performed in Hull and Leeds. She was a finalist of Script Yorkshire’s 25th Anniversary, her work directed by Dominic LeClerc at the Theatre Royal, Wakefield.

Lynne’s play 2 Men, 2 Dogs And A Woman was selected for Hull Truck’s Pie And a Pint, long-listed by Verity Bargate and performed at Kardomah94 in 2016. Lynne was recently part of Hull Truck’s Grow Festival. She is now working on a new play and a novel.
