Join in the fun on Yellow Day 2020!- Become A Sheep & Follow the Crowd

“Yellow Day’ was a project that I rolled out across Hull, – with the help of countless people from all corners of the aforementioned city – on Saturday June 24th 2017.

The day itself was created to help people from Hull to celebrate their love of their city, and it’s fascinating history, by means of wearing or creating something yellow.

I chose the colour yellow because it’s a psychologically uplifting colour, and it resonates spontaneity, optimism, positivity and energy. And I intended to link all of those elements with people’s love of Hull and its long and influential history. Furthermore, I chose yellow because it is a colour that is intrinsically linked with Hull, as this was the colour of the the three coronets that featured in Hull’s original coat of arms.

It is also worth noting that the date – the 24th of June – is an important date in Hull’s cultural calendar, as it was on this day back in 1981 that the Humber Bridge was officially opened, and there’s no greater symbol of connection than a bridge.

I had planned for Yellow Day to be a one-off event; however, one of my helpers, Janet Bark, whose ideas and energy was priceless during the build up to the event – decided that she wanted to create a second Yellow Day Hull. And so on June 23rd 2018, through the hard work of Janet and her many volunteers, a second Yellow Day Hull materialised, which went under the name, ‘Yellow Day Reunion’ It proved to be very successful too.

And with Janet Bark at the helm again, there will be a Yellow Day 4, which has adopted the monicker, ‘Become A Sheep & Follow the Crowd’, the theme being sheep, of course. The date to look out for: Saturday June 20th.

I’m certain that the fourth installation of Yellow Day Hull will be unquestionably memorable too, as the number of volunteers just keeps on growing.”
