Arco plans to launch our programme in September 2016. This will be a two-year programme with successful apprentices being offered a permanent position in year three.

As one of the leading businesses in the region, Arco is deeply committed to supporting a wide range of local charitable organisations and community programmes. The bespoke designs have been created by Arco’s own Clothing Technologist and Designers Kirby Griffiths and Tertia Beaney. The team has experience in supplying volunteer garments having worked on the London 2012 Olympic and 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow uniforms.

The uniforms will include polo shirts, a 3 in 1 soft shell and waterproof jacket combination, and a baseball cap in 2017 ‘scandalous blue’ ‘ludicrous purple’ and ‘deep mischievous pink’ – the City of Culture colours. Volunteers will also be issued with black cargo pants and shorts.

With a portfolio of uniform designs for projects like The London 2012 Olympics, the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the BLOODHOUND supersonic car team, Her Majesty’s Passport Office, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and for companies such as the London Taxi Company and Card Factory, Arco has applied its expertise to create a range of garments that are visible, distinctive and unifying for the team.

British Council

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide.

We work in more than 100 countries and our 7,000 staff – including 2,000 teachers – work with thousands of professionals and policy makers and millions of young people every year by teaching English, sharing the arts and delivering education and society programmes.
We are a UK charity governed by Royal Charter. A core publically-funded grant provides less than 25 per cent of our turnover which last year was £781 million. The rest of our revenues are earned from services which customers around the world pay for, through education and development contracts and from partnerships with public and private organisations. All our work is in pursuit of our charitable purpose and supports prosperity and security for the UK and globally.

Our work in Arts seeks to create stronger creative sectors across the world that are better connected with the UK. We do this by sharing UK arts work with the world; fostering collaboration; developing skills and livelihoods; building resilience and creative responses to crisis; and shaping policy.

“I am thrilled that the British Council is partnering with the Hull UK City of Culture programme. This three year collaboration will use our cultural relations expertise to increase impact for Hull and for the UK culture sector more widely. Together, we build a programme of international exchange to bring new perspectives on culture into the city, and to share the great potential of both the City of Culture programme and Hull with the world.”

Green Port Hull logo

Green Port Hull

The Green Port Hull vision is to establish Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire as a world class centre for renewable energy, creating wealth and employment for the region.

With its prime location close to the offshore wind opportunities in the North Sea, established infrastructure, knowledge, expertise and the capability to handle a diverse energy mix, the region is capitalising on its strengths.

These attributes are the reason that Siemens chose Hull as the location to build its world-class offshore wind turbine blade manufacturing, assembly and servicing facilities that form the centrepiece of Green Port Hull. The Siemens investment is just the catalyst for the Green Port Hull vision, as well as offshore wind there are major opportunities in biofuels, waste to energy, solar, wave and tidal power generation.

The renewable energy sector will be the single biggest influence on the local economy for generations, creating thousands of new jobs along with a wealth of opportunity for local people and business.

Through the Green Port Growth Programme, £25.7m of RGF Funding has been secured for inward investment, skills & employment, business support, and research and development to ensure that local people and business gain maximum benefit from the renewable energy sector.

P&O Ferries

P&O Ferries, the UK’s Favourite Ferry Company*

P&O Ferries is a household name operator of ferry services across the English Channel, North Sea and Irish Sea, with almost 4,000 employees.

We have a fleet of more than 20 ships and operate more than 30,000 sailings a year. In addition to sailing on eight major routes between Britain, France, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Holland and Belgium, we operate intermodal continental hubs at Zeebrugge and Europoort and have our own logistics arm, P&O Ferrymasters.

Every year we carry more than 10 million passengers, 1.6 million cars and 2.2 million freight units.

*As voted for by consumers in the 2016 Globe Travel Awards

Why did we choose to support Hull 2017?

P&O Ferries’ iconic route from Hull to Rotterdam first began 52 years ago and was followed a decade later by a service between Hull and Zeebrugge.

During that time the company has employed hundreds of local people, taken hundreds of thousands of tourists to the continent and transported millions of tonnes of freight to and from Britain.

Today, as we celebrate Hull being the UK City of Culture in 2017, both routes are as popular as ever.

Two giant, 60,000-ton, cruise-ferries – the Pride of Hull and the Pride of Rotterdam – provide a daily service across the North Sea to Holland. While the route to Belgium is served by the Pride of York and Pride of Bruges, which have been relaunched this year with an £8.5 million refurbishment.

With mouth-watering food on offer in the Brasserie, live music, bars and airport-style shopping, the holiday begins when you set foot on the ship.
